As a leading nonprofit citizen diplomacy organization, Sister Cities International has been promoting peace through mutual understanding since its origins in 1956. Growing population and climate change has become an undeniably harsh reality in our lives. Consistent with the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda, Sister Cities International will continue to embrace climate change as the overarching theme for its 2024 Young Artists and Authors Showcase. This year’s theme is “CLIMATESCAPE: RESILIENT CITIES for TOMORROW’S CLIMATE”.

Laguna Beach Sister Cities Association, in collaboration with Laguna Beach County Water District, through its outreach, is making it possible for local youth to raise awareness about the significance of sustainable development, making our city more inclusive, safe, resilient, and efficient, with landscape, resource and waste management design and solutions. We invite youth from the local community to submit positive, innovative, and impactful art, music, and poetry, which delve into the pressing challenges of climate change and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Students should use their imagination and vividly depict the transformative landscapes that embrace eco-consciousness, inclusivity, and forward-thinking solutions, for example: roof-top gardens, green infrastructures, transportation, renewable energy, solar and water structures, etc.

For inspiration visit: yaas2024.orgusgbc.org, and globalgoals.org/goals/11- sustainable-cities-and-communities. As a project, we encourage local students to have discussions with students in our sister cities of Menton, San Jose del Cabo, and St. Ives regarding sustainability in their communities.
